When Natural Male Infertility Treatments Aren't Enough
By Carol Andrews
When a man and women have tried unsuccessfully to conceive for quite some time, most will see a doctor for treatment. The majority of doctors will suggest some natural treatment options to begin, from predicting the female ovulation cycle to sexual positions that are more conducive to conceiving, to improving the overall health of the couples. Unfortunately, there are times when natural treatments aren't enough- like in the case where there are abnormalities with the male's sperm count or the condition of the male's sperm.
A common male concern is men with low sperm counts, or sperm abnormalities that make it difficult for the sperm to reach or penetrate the female egg. If this is found to be the problem for your partner's inability to conceive, there are treatment options that may help you. Sometimes, the cause for low sperm counts or abnormal sperm is due to a varicocele- an enlargement of veins within the scrotum. This condition occurs in about 40% of males who are infertile.
Infertility treatment for the male with varicocele could involve a surgical procedure in an attempt to correct the issue. The treatment surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, and typical recovery time is about two days for non strenuous activity and two weeks for more strenuous

After the treatment for varicocele, about 66% of men test with higher semen parameters and around 50% of patients have increased conception rates approximately 4 months after the surgery. The results of men having treatment for varicocele then, show an improved possibility of getting their partner pregnant, but the surgery does not offer a guarantee that it will be the treatment to resolve your infertility.
