Aromatherapy: Naturally Treating Infertility
By Carol Andrews

Infertility occurs in about 15% of couples who are trying to become pregnant. About 35-40% of the causes are known and related to the male, with about the same percentage of related to causes within the female, and about 20% of cases are from unknown causes.

Natural treatment options can be used for all causes of infertility, and are often recommended among the first round of treatment prior to more medical methods of treatment. A variety of natural treatment options may also be recommended in all cases of where the cause is unknown.

One method of natural treatment involves aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils from plants in a variety of ways. Some oils are massaged into the person's skin, some oils are included in the bath water, and others are placed in a candle warmer or other aromatherapy unit to be vaporized and breathed in. The method used depends upon the results the participant is looking to achieve with aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is traditionally used as a method of relaxation and stress relief- with certain scents being thought to provoke these feelings in the person using aromatherapy. The aroma of spiced apple, for example, is known for decreasing blood pressure up to 5 points in a study conducted by the Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at Yale University of aromatherapy participants. treatment using aromatherapy is thought to work because it may

assist the body in regulating the fertility cycles in a woman.

Your personal reasons for using aromatherapy is how the selection of essential oils is made. Individuals wanting to experience treatment involving aromatherapy should find a qualified aromatherapy practitioner for selecting appropriate essential oils for infertility.

Infertility treatment with aromatherapy has little evidence of increasing the success rates of couples getting pregnant, but it can greatly alleviate emotional stress that is caused by the inability to conceive. Alleviating stress can go a long way in an treatment program, both natural and otherwise.
