Infertility
in men is most often caused by:problems making sperm -- producing too
few sperm or none at allproblems with the sperm's ability to reach the
egg and fertilize it -- abnormal sperm shape or structure prevent it
from moving correctly. Infertility can be treated with medicine,
surgery, artificial insemination or assisted reproductive
technology. Infertility treatment can be physically
uncomfortable, time-consuming, exhausting, and costly — all
without a guarantee of success. Infertility is also defined in
specific terms as the failure to conceive after a year of regular
intercourse without contraception. Infertility primarily refers
to the biological inability of a man or a woman to contribute to
conception. Infertility may also refer to the state of a woman
who is unable to carry a pregnancy to full term. Infertility
affects approximately 10% of people of reproductive age [2], and 15% of
couples.
